FFXI: Seekers of Adoulin Update 3/27/13

Okay, so sorry for the delay. This most recent expansion has distracted me enough not only to miss my blog but also in participating in other online events. Here is a quick over-view of the most recent update:

March 27, 2013 (JST) Version Update

Event-related

======================================
The content of this version update, which includes new expert jobs and new areas, may not be played until Wednesday, March 27 (PDT) or Thursday, March 28 (GMT) even if the necessary software and expansion content has been installed earlier. (Time to get nostalgic while we all have a 6 hour download!)
======================================
  • Seekers of Adoulin brings with it several new items displayed in the main menu as outlined below.

    • Missions
      Seekers of Adoulin

    • Quests
      Adoulin
      Coalitions (42 in all!)

    • Region Info.
      Colonization

    • Status

    * Monstrosity will be selectable once the content is introduced into the game.
  • The following areas have been introduced with Seekers of Adoulin:

(Another Expansion means another pretty girl!)
  • Defeating monsters in Seekers of Adoulin areas will occasionally cause a strange mirage known as a "Soul Pyre" to appear.
If the player touches a Soul Pyre from the proper distance and direction, he will receive items and/or bayld. (Kick me in the ass; I just read this and now I know what those damn things do. )
  • Gathering activities in the Seekers of Adoulin expansion areas are governed by a new rule.
Continuing to gather resources in the same area will build a character's fatigue, much like fishing, but will also gradually increase the likelihood of gathering better materials.
    * Moving to a new area will reset both effects.
    * Fatigue recovers over time.
(Fatigue returns to help players from FFXIV feel nostalgic. Yep, don't have anything original to say here..)

Certain pieces of equipment and key items that aid in gathering activities throughout Eastern Ulbuka have also been introduced.
  • New battle content known as "Reives" have been added. (These kind of work like Bastion but are significantly tougher.)

  • The following adjustments have been made to the Nyzul Isle Uncharted Area Survey Assault content.
    • Levels of monsters appearing in this content have been adjusted.
    • By selecting damage types that monsters are weak to, such as blunt attacks, piercing attacks, or magic attacks, players are able to deal more damage than before.
  • The following adjustments have been made to Legion.
    • Characteristics have been given to monsters appearing within the maquette.
Reductions in HP, attack, defense values, and other statistics as well as methods of attacking monsters' weaknesses comprise the majority of these changes, but some monsters have experienced decreases in some areas and increases in others.
  • The following adjustment has been made to Einherjar.
    • The HP, attack, defense, and other characteristics of "Odin" as appearing in Odin's Chamber II have been decreased.
  • The following adjustment has been made to Voidwatch.
    • Void Clusters are now able to be used in the Provenance jurisdiction.
  • The following adjustments have been made to Walk of Echoes.
    • The levels of monsters have been decreased.
    • The following items have been added.
      Frayed Sack (D) / Frayed Sack (L)
  • Adjustments have been made to Salvage drop rates.
  • The following adjustments have been made to Limbus:
    • Items necessary to enter Limbus will be collected upon entry.
    • Items necessary for entering Limbus are no longer exclusive.
Accordingly, any of the appropriate items in one's possession that have already been used at the time of implementation may be used again.

Battle-related

  • Two new jobs, geomancer and rune fencer, are now available.

Size: 29.1 KB(Already level 30. ^^ Fun job that places a new spin on tanking.)
Specific quests must be completed in order to obtain each job.
    Read on for the details.
    * The level 70 to 71 limit break quests for geomancers and rune fencers is scheduled to be implemented in the next version update. In order to level geomancers and rune fencers past 70 before the applicable quests are implemented, players may instead complete a limit break quest for another job.
  • New monsters have been introduced to roam the areas appearing in Seekers of Adoulin.

  • The amount of enmity accumulation based upon how much damage players deal to a target and the amount of HP it can recover will be reduced when facing targets over level 50. (I felt this while using SMN out in the new areas. It hurts.)
Should the target be level 99 or higher, this type of enmity accumulation will be reduced by approximately thirty percent.
In addition, testing to reduce the amount of enmity accumulated from using the white magic spell Cure V is ongoing.
    * The static type of enmity accumulation—not based on damage dealt and HP recovered—will remain the same.
    * Additional adjustments regarding enmity are also scheduled to be implemented.
  • The attack-to-defense ratio has undergone adjustment.
When a player's level is vastly lower than the level of the monster attacking him, there will now be times when he will take much more damage than before.
  • The maximum amount of damage dealt based upon the attack-to-defense ratio is now the same for both one-handed and two-handed weapons. (:/)
  • Level differential corrections have been adjusted.
Level differential corrections will now be made when an enemy is two levels higher than the player, and will mirror those previously made when an enemy was one level higher than a player.
  • The amount which the Monk ability Counterstance lowers one's defense has been reduced.
  • The white magic spell Embrava has undergone the following adjustments. (NERFED!)

    Pre-adjustment
    Post-adjustment
    Effect
    Duration
    5 minutes→90 seconds (Wat r u doin SE?)
    Haste
    Potency

    (PlayStation 2 Version)

------
Pretty big update, huh? Adoulin is a pretty big place. If you haven't had an opportunity to visit it yet, think back to 8 years ago when you first walked out of Kazham and had to find the EXP party you just got invited too. Scary, big, and a little confusing. Adoulin promises to bring back the difficulty that Abyssea abolosihed. I'd say it's doing it's job pretty damn well. New gear has been updated too which makes you think that SE is trolling us for making fun of PUP gear. I look forward to see more of what this new world has to offer. I also look forward to seeing this girl more:

Stay tuned.

Resolved Issues
  • The following issues have been rectified:
    • The issue wherein the Spinet furnishing would not play certain songs even when placed in one's Mog House.
    • The issue wherein the damage bonus based on dexterity for the thief ability Sneak Attack would activate even when thief was set as a support job.
    • The issue wherein changing the number of character models displayed under "Misc." in the Config menu would also change the cursor position for the Icon Type setting.

Known Issues
  • Receiving the effects of Warp II, Teleport, or Retrace during a cutscene in a town occasionally skips the cutscene.
  • The item Vihuela cannot yet be delivered to characters belonging to different accounts.
  • Using the black magic spell Kaustra does not properly count towards completing "dark-based status ailment" objectives in Trial of the Magians.
  • The Abyssea-Tahrongi NM Cuelebre can become the target of melee attacks at all times under certain conditions.
  • The rate at which participants in Ballista and Brenner competitions receive temporary items remains unintentionally high under certain circumstances.
  • Absorbing the effect of a song while under the effect of a Phantom Roll occasionally negates the Phantom Roll effect.

Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin New Trailer & Release Date

Time draws near for adventurers of FFXI to discover a whole new world. The first true expansion in 6 years, Seekers of Adoulin seeks to bring FFXI back to where it was 6 years ago. SoA will bring us a new world to explore, lots of new enemies, two new jobs, and what we are hoping is an expansive storyline with fun quests. The following is both the most recent trailer as well as the original trailer showed back at FanFest 2012.

Seekers of Adoulin Prologue

As the eight century came to a close, so did
the islands' old regime. The royal family,
in partnership with the eleven knightly orders, agreed to abolish
imperial rule...from which arose the Sacred City of Adoulin.

The rate at which it developed astounded all.
In the blink of an eye, Adoulin had become a maritime metropolis,
its mercantile prowess rivaling even Jeuno's.

The hustle and bustle of the commoners' district in the west--Adoulin's
center of trade and pioneering hub--serves as a stark
contrast to the refined, stoic castle in the east.
It is upon the urban landscape that adventurers will first
leave their mark...in the next chapter of the Vana'diel's history.

 Check out the screenshots below!

Another pretty girl to follow.
A large beehive for you to run from.
Another fountain for you to mule by!
New Crabs for your to EXP off of!

The expansion will be released as a download for PC & Xbox on March 26th for $29.99. For any returning players who need the rest of the expansions, there will be an anniversary download off the entire game and all expansions for $39.99. The expansion itself will go live on the 27th. So much fun to be had - I cannot wait. ^^

FFXI Update - 7/23/12

Taken from the Official Forums

Event-related

  • New battle content called Heroines' Holdfast has been introduced. (Given the opportunity, I would not mind holding any of these heroines.. and fast.)
Update07-23-2012 0.jpg
Heroines' Holdfast is a special battlefield created to celebrate FINAL FANTASY XI's tenth anniversary and takes place on Nyzul Isle. The holdfast houses multiple heroines; one for each floor. Participants make their way through certain floors and finally battle the heroine who awaits them in her chamber on the corresponding floor.

Entry Requirements

  • Have one's main job at level 99.
  • Form a party of three to six people.
  • There is a time restriction of fifteen minutes, which can be extended by an additional fifteen minutes each time a heroine is defeated.

Heroines' Holdfast Overview

  1. Trade an Athena Orb to the Runic Seal at the Nyzul Isle staging point (J-9) in the : Alzadaal Undersea Ruins to enter the battlefield. You can obtain an Athena Orb through the FFXI Forum contests and Golden Gobbie Bag Drawings.
  2. *The Athena Orb will disappear upon entering the holdfast.
    Update07-23-2012 11.jpg
  3. Transfer to the antechamber.
There are five runes of transfer in the antechamber that teleport participants to each heroine's floor, and deciding which heroine your party shall do battle with before trading your Athena Orb should save valuable time at this juncture.
  4. The following runes of transfer teleport players to the corresponding heroine's floor:
  5. Update07-23-2012 12.jpg
    * : Starting Location
    Rune of Transfer #1: Lion
(Can't wait to see my favorite Zilart/Original Game NPC again!)
    Rune of Transfer #2: Prishe
(Favorite all time NPC for many. Main character of the CoP Storyline.)
    Rune of Transfer #3: Aphmau
(Some may know her by other names, but here we fight ToAU's court puppeteer and her two puppets.)
    Rune of Transfer #4: Lilisette
(From the Maws to your face, WoTG's dancer has arrived)
    Rune of Transfer #5: Mumor
    (Shimmering Shining Samba!!!... or something?)

  • [dev1125] Voidwatch Adjustments
Update07-23-2012 1.jpg
  • The acquisition of other rewards will no longer be interrupted when a rare item already in one's possession is among the spoils obtained from a Riftworn Pyxis after selecting "obtain all."
  • Enemies' resistance to enfeebling magic has been adjusted.
  • [dev1131] Legion Adjustments
  • It is now possible to reenter a battlefield after being ejected due to all participants having been KO'd.
  • In addition, the distance that enemies roam has been adjusted. (Hopefully the HNMs will stop having tea-parties long enough to be pulled. >.>)
Update07-23-2012 2.jpg

  • Enemies' resistance to enfeebling magic has been adjusted. (I'm not sure if this is good or bad..)
  • Fields of Valor and Grounds of Valor Adjustments
  • Objectives for the following training regime have been revised: Ifrit's Cauldron: Page 5
  • Potency of the field support effect White Magic: Protect has been increased.
  • [dev1132] Assault Adjustment
  • When moving to the next floor during Nyzul Isle Investigation and Nyzul Isle Uncharted Region, characters will now zone in at different coordinates around the Rune of Transfer. (Yay, I no longer have to wait for all the Elvaans and Humes I play with to get the hell out of the way so I can move!.. on another note... Where do they teleport Galkas? I don't see one here.)
Update07-23-2012 3.jpg
  • [dev1133] Einherjar Adjustment
  • All rewards procured from the Nashmau (H-7) NPC Kilusha will now be displayed on a single page.
  • A new fish may now be cut open in the quest "Inside the Belly."

Battle-related

  • The following job-related adjustments have been made:
  • White Mage
  • The effect of Protect V merit points has been adjusted.
The value for each point has been modified from DEF+2 to DEF+5 (Nice!)
  • Bard
  • The effect of Knight's Minne merit points has been adjusted.
The value for each point has been modified from DEF+1 to DEF+2.
  • [dev1129] The maximum number of upgrades for the attribute merit point category has been raised from twelve to twenty-four. (INT can't go any higher.. guess I'll have to start meriting STR for SAM?)
  • [dev1093] Enfeebling Magic Resistance of Monsters
Update07-23-2012 4.jpg
  • A log message now appears when a monster resists an enfeebling spell which enables the player to determine whether a monster possesses complete resistance to a particular type of enfeebling magic. (Very awesome!)
  • As long as the monster does not completely resist the effect, it is possible to inflict enfeebling magic upon them. The number of affectable monsters has drastically increased. (If it can be paralyzed, Yopo and Cowbox can paralyze it!)
  • A new system has been added in which using enfeebling magic multiple times will lower the target enemy's resistance. This system is known as "Immunobreak." (I really like this idea.)
  • When an Immunobreak occurs after the enemy has resisted a particular enfeebling magic, the resistance of the enemy to that effect will decrease by a certain amount.
  • Immunobreaks can stack and continually lower an enemy's resistance.
  • The more times the enfeebling magic is resisted, the greater the likelihood that an Immunobreak will occur.
  • When the enfeebling effect is successfully applied, the resistance will reset. (Balance!)
  • If the effect is continuously applied, the enemy will slowly gain more resistance, and eventually Immunobreaks will no longer occur.
  • Note that some monsters have complete resistance to enfeebling effects.
(Immunobreaks will not occur on enemies which have complete resistance.)
  • Immunobreaks only apply to enfeebling effects (magic abilities based on Enfeebling Magic skill level).
  • [dev1128] The following spell effects have been raised:
Update07-23-2012 5.jpg
Protect / Protectra / Protect II / Protectra II / Protect III / Protectra III / Protect IV / Protectra IV / Protect V / Protectra V / Knight's Minne / Knight's Minne II / Knight's Minne III / Knight's Minne IV / Knight's Minne V
  • [dev1128] Resistances to the following spells have been changed:
Foe Requiem / Foe Requiem II / Foe Requiem III / Foe Requiem IV / Foe Requiem V / Foe Requiem VI / Foe Requiem VII
  • [dev1130] The interval between the conclusion of battle and the next possible time an attack command can be carried out has been adjusted.
  • [dev1130] The interval between the time a ranged attack finishes and the next possible time a new command can be carried out has been reduced.
  • [dev1130] Guard and Parry Adjustments
  • The guard and parry skills have been adjusted so that they may level up even if the skills do not activate when players are attacked.
  • A new familiar may now be summoned with the beastmaster ability "Call Beast."
Update07-23-2012 6.jpg
  • The beastmaster ability Tame may no longer be used if you already have a familiar out.
  • The items dropped by the Yagudo Pipers found in Giddeus and Meriphataud Mountains have been modified. (They now drop more BRD spells!)

Item-related

  • New items have been added.
Update07-23-2012 7.jpg
(Hell yeah, the All-In-One Staff. 8 Open spots here I come!.. pending on if it really is better)
  • New synthesis recipes have been added.
  • New synergy recipes have been added.

  • The following items are no longer classified as rare:
Cordial Invite / Mercenary Camp Entry Slip / Martial Ball Invite / Training Grounds Key / Pest Repellant
  • The Clr. Duckbills +2 attribute "Enhances Protectra V effect" has been increased.
  • The enchantment attribute of the items Protect Ring and Protect Earring has been increased.

System-related

  • [dev1126] An upper limit on the frame rate for fishing animations has been implemented so as to decrease the gap experienced between different platforms.
Update07-23-2012 8.jpg

[Windows and Xbox 360 Only]

  • [dev1134] Spell icons have been modified in preparation for the UI overhaul.
Update07-23-2012 9.jpg
(I personally really like these icons. After 10 years, it's nice to see some changes!)
Various issues have been resolved as well.

FFXI: Seekers of Adoulin - Part 2

Day 2 of VanaFest has come and gone - here is some more info we learned about the future of FFXI.

If you don't recognized the art - it's Kazushi Hagiwara's, creator of Bastard!
With Geomancer announced previously, we now know the 2nd new job is Rune Fencer. Rune Fencers have exceptional magic defense  with two different types of runes: Elemental-based runes that work like defeebing type en-spells. The second is an Enchantment-based runes that increased the Rune Fencer's attack or defense. A new type of tank that situation-ally could be better then PLD or NIN.

Kinda reminds me of PSO.
Also announced was a Private Island where you could raise your own monsters and items for selling or for creating something better. A Monster Playing system where you can take control of a mob and fight others in a PvP type setting. New custom instanced dungeons. A bunch of new spells. New 2hour abilities for all jobs. We should be expecting alot more updates coming in the next few months about upcoming updates we've been expecting and even a few more surprises.

FFXI: Seekers of Adoulin - The Offical 5th Expansion Pack is Announced!

At VanaFest 2012, SquareEnix announced the 5th Expansion for Final Fantasy FFXI. Not often do MMOs that are over 10 years old get a 5th expansion, but FFXI's future still looks bright enough to merit this addition the the huge amount of content that is already in play. The new expansion, titled "Seekers of Adoulin" will set adventures west of our home continent to explore the lands of Adoulin. (As if you could not tell that from the title.)

With a new land to explore comes two new jobs. While one job remains a secret, the other is Geomancer. Geomancers take the elements around them to attack their foes and assist their allies. Here is what we know about Geomancers.
Nothing sells a job like a Mithra.

..nothing deteriorates from a job like a Galka..
GEOMANCER
Geomancy to support party members
-Sphere that appears around the caster.
-Different category from all other buff types. (songs, rolls, etc.)
-Can move with the field, giving different party members the buff.
-Moves from party member to party member to support them.
-Special abilities that allow certain spells to be used, similar to SCH.
-Auras that can be cast on others/the ground? They have HP and deplete over time. Can be destroyed by AoEs.
-Effects such as Regen, Refresh, Regain, Stat boosts(STR, DEX), Attack and defense bonuses, Paralyze, Slow, MDEF down, EVA down, not affected by resistances

Elemental magic for damage
- B- skill
-T4 spells
- -ra spells
-Some dark magic

Job-specific spells
-Enhance geomancy.

Polarity (Job Trait): Enhancements to spells depending on where you are in relation to mobs.

Whole new city!
New areas are abound in this new expansion - We can see a port-like city that is reminiscent of one of the XIV cities, a dark forest, a cave that has tree roots running through it, a new beach like area, and more. We also know that Adoulin is to the west across the Sea of Zafmlug and is likely part of the Ulbuka continent. Achtelle, one of the freelancers for campaign, comes from the Adoulin continent. We also know the the Dragoon job originates from this land. We've also seen a handful of items that apparently originated from this area. The trailer also reveals some key words.
What we can see is the words "Yggdrasil", Twelve Great Houses, An Ancient Kingdom and Seven Native Warlords. What we only see a fraction of is "Dark Overlord" (Possibly the threat of this land), Arciela-something, (Maybe arcielago?), some of the north, and something to do with Tarutarus.

The expansion is also due out world-wide in 2013 for all current platforms.

Not much else is known, that is until tomorrow's second day of VanaFest. Stay tune fellow adventurers - it looks like there is still new discoveries to be found!

"You'll never defeat me with your sad little shout party!"
The following enemy weakness adjustments, formerly exclusive to the final chapter of Voidwatch, will apply to all jurisdictions.
    • Triggering weaknesses will lower enemies’ attack and magic attack power.
    • Abilities and spells learned via merit points will not trigger enemy weaknesses.
    • The thief ability Bully will trigger enemy weaknesses.
    • All pet special attacks will be able to strike enemy weaknesses.
    • The ranger ability Bounty Shot will not trigger enemy weaknesses.
    • Wyvern breath attacks will not trigger enemy weaknesses.
    • Only a single blood pact for each avatar will trigger enemy weaknesses (Thank you.)
    • All automation abilities and special attacks will trigger enemy weaknesses.
    • The scholar ability Modus Veritas will not trigger enemy weaknesses.
  • The "Void Cluster," a new key item that may be used to weaken Voidwalkers, has been added.
  • The following equipment items, hereafter to be known as "Pulse Panoplia"—a reference to their luminescent appearance—may now be converted to new items called Pulse Cells.
  • Anhur Robe / Fazheluo Radiant Mail / Mextli Harness / Mekira Meikogai / Toci's Harness / Heka's Kalasiris /Asteria / Borealis / Coruscanti / Ephemeron / Murasamemaru / Delphinius / Aytanri
    Pulse Cell Conversion
    1. When obtaining a pulse weapon or piece of armor from a Riftworn Pyxis, select "Obtain as pulse cell."
Items obtainable as pulse cells will be marked with a star.
Pulse cells are stackable (up to 12), deliverable, and may be traded or sold at bazaars and the auction house.
    2. Trade five of any one variety of pulse cell to the NPC Ardrick (Jugner Forest, I-8) to obtain the corresponding piece of pulse equipment.
*In order to have equipment reconstructed, players must possess the designation for defeating the Voidwalker that drops the corresponding item.
Seriously? Is this so keep someone from getting Toci's Harness twice? Perhaps.

  • [dev1118] Legion Adjustments
    • The Legion Libretto, which allows players to choose what fanfare plays during battle, has been added to battlefield antechambers.
*Only the group leader who originally traded the Legion Pass will be able to change the music.
    • The key items required to participate in Legion battlefields and their prices have been adjusted as follows:

      Key ItemPrice
      18-playerLegion tome page: minimus180,000 gil
      36-playerLegion tome page: maximus360,000 gil
*Legion tome pages already in the player's possession at the time of the update will be automatically converted to maximus pages.
Players wishing to participate in reduced-difficulty 18-player battlefields will be required to purchase minimus pages anew.
This was needed. 1mil gil for 1 hour to kill a bunch of HNMS didn't seem fair.

    Random Picture Time!
  • [dev1120] Fellow Adjustments
  • [dev1121] Limit Break Quest Adjustments

    In Defiant Challenge
    • A new method for obtaining the required quest items has been added. In other words, no more hunting Lichs and praying for the drop. I paid a SMN to help me with this years ago. Kinda funny.

  • [dev1121] A new method for opening the Banishing Gates in Garlaige Citadel has been added.
Players may open the gates alone by obtaining the "pouch of weighted stones" key item from the ??? target in Garlaige Citadel (G-8) and examining each of the three gates. No need for friends!
  • [dev1121] The Brass Door on the top floor of Castle Oztroja (H-7) will remain open for a longer period of time.

    Battle-related
  • The following job adjustments and refinements have been implemented:
    • [dev1109] Summoner
      • The following Tier V spells have been unlocked:
        • Fire Spirit: Fire V (Lv.86)
        • Ice Spirit: Blizzard V (Lv.89)

        • Water Spirit: Water V (Lv.80)
        • Light Spirit: Protect V / Shell V (Lv.76)
  • The method by which the ranger ability Decoy Shot determines which character will accrue enmity from the ranger's attacks has been refined.
  • The following items are now dropped by more enemies, and the rate at which they drop has been increased:
    Blue Mage's Testimony / Corsair's Testimony / Puppermaster's Testimony

*Maps not owned by the player cannot be displayed.
  • The new text command /displayhead has been added and allows players to hide or display their headgear.
  • The waiting period between synthesis attempts has been reduced.
