Toonami - More New Shows OTW!

So I completly forgot to post about the last Toonami change, where they added the 2012 Thundercats and Symbionic Titan to the midnight lineup. Before I move on, I'd like to point out a few awesome things about the new Thundercats series.

I still hope for season 2.

1. Voice Acting & Animation is top-notch!

2. Bringing the new Thundercats is a call back to the early days of original Toonami -when they shows the original Thundercats!

3. Great story, I don't care what you people say about the Petal Leaf Episode.

Now, let's move on to the new new changes: 

"Grr, we have to watch more reruns again?"

Tonight 's Toonami will not only show the end of the Luke-warm Casshern Sins but also reintroduce Inu Yasha to the late night Adult Swim audience. Maybe if Inu Yasha becomes popular again, we'll finally get the final act. Inu Yasha isn't a great to me as Ramna 1/2 was, but it'll do for now. As for the next new show..

Trust me when I say you'll enjoy it even if it is a spinoff!

Remember earlier when I mentioned how cool it was bringing the new Thundercats to the revived Toonami as the original played during Toonami's original run? Well, it's time for another Toonami classic to return in a new form - Tenchi Muyo is back. Well, Sorta. The Tenchi Spin-Off Tenchi Muyo GXP will start airing next week. This side story features a young man named Seina Yamada who becomes mistaken by the Galaxy Police as another main character. He ends up having all sorts of fun that would normally be reserved for the son of Jurai himself. Check it out if you're a Tenchi fan or not: It's a blast.

Toonami: 12 Weeks Later

How has the return trip been T.O.M.? Let's find out with a quick follow-up from a previous review for the return of Toonami.

It has been a couple months sense Toonami's brilliant return to T.V. as Adult Swim's Saturday Evening Line-up. We left off with an almost eternally produced anime, two new series, and some reruns of some classic titles. Now 12 weeks later, we see that there are some changes in the lineup. We've also confirmed the following:

-Deadman Wonderland breaks 1mil viewers
-The Deadman Wonderland OAV will not play on Toonami as of yet.
-FLCL will not be on Toonami, despite rumors.
-TOM mentions reruns are coming, but hold out for some great things.



One Hell of a Cartoon.

First let us start with the series that are leaving the late-night block: Deadman Wonderland & Cowboy Bepop. I'm glad to see that they are taking Cowboy Bepop if only long enough to run another series. I love the crew of the Bepop as much as the next person, but it's time to let Spike and the crew take some time off. I'm very upset to see Deadman Wonderland stop though. Much like Highschool of the Dead, Berserk, and the original Hellsing T.V. series Deadman Wonderland suffers from a lack of more produced episodes. Maybe it is because the manga has also been on hiatus for the last few years. Maybe the anime didn't do well enough if Japan? I'm hoping we see a second season one day. I'd even settle for an OAV series or Brotherhood like series just to watch how Ganta's adventures turn out.

Now on to the upcoming lineup:

Bleach
Like I mentioned before, I have a very hard time getting into Bleach anymore. Everything seems to be blurring into one giant arc that contently repeats itself and I don't know how much longer I can take it. Music is still great, so I guess I have to give them credit for catchy openings and endings.

Samurai 7
Funimation brings the anime remake of the original Seven Samurai to [AS]'s Toonami. Sadly I've owned this series on BluRay for almost a year now thanks to a bargain bin and have yet to watch past episode 2. Maybe they will keep me interested being on TV now? I sure as hell hope so.

Casshern Sins
We're halfway through Casshern's tale of emo robo-humans and bad-ass puppy-bots. The dark feel of Casshern woven with well designed battles has slowly become a boring trip down emo lane. If I see Casshern look down and to the side one more time, I may shoot myself. I hope the second part of the series really starts to pick up. If not, I may not have anything to talk about once it's over.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Alchemy's favorite brothers are still working their way to find a way to get each other back in their original bodies. Brotherhood is a great series that only suffers from a few VA's phoning in their rolls. Brotherhood is quickly spiraling down to it's climatic finale that is sure to keep people on the edge of their seats.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Our favorite Major is still kicking ass and taking names. Great music, beautiful animation, and insanely good voice acting keeps this series going. Expecting them to finish off the 2nd season and start over with the first, and more popular Laughing Man Arc.

Eureka 7
As T.O.M. mentions, it's lucky 7s at Toonami. Previously played on [AS], Eureka 7 returns with hopes that it will not only draw in new anime fans but bring back old fans. I missed a majority of Eureka 7's original run so this will be a treat for me.

A great improvement to the lineup with hopes that they will keep the fans coming back for more.

Adult Swim's Toonami Line-Up Revealed!

   Originally to be unknown till this coming Saturday, Adult Swim's Toonami lineup has been revealed with two new anime accusations. Here is the schedule:

12:00 a.m. - Bleach
12:30 a.m. - Deadman Wonderland
1:00 a.m. - Casshern Sins
1:30 a.m. - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop

  Former Toonami front-man and newly appointed VP of Cartoon Network Jason DeMarco has reveled that Steve Blum will return as TOM, but we will not be seeing his computer Sara nor will we hear Peter Cullin calling the shots in between shows. DeMarco has also mentioned that this Toonami has a very small budget to work with and that they will need alot of good ratings to make more money to buy new shows. He also mentioned that shows such as One Piece, Inu Yasha: The Final Act, and Fairy Tail would be great shows to bring to Toonami in the near future.  

  As for the two new shows Deadman Wonderland & Casshern Sins, here is a brief introduction to both stories:

DEADMAN WONDERLAND

   From MangaReader.net: "The Great Tokyo Earthquake. Ten years ago, it destroyed lives as it tore buildings asunder. CASSHERN SINS

From Wikipedia: "Casshern Sins tells the story of a world where robots subjugated humanity after becoming self-aware. Their leader, Braiking Boss, ruled over the world with an iron fist. One day, a mysterious girl named Luna is summoned by the people, in order to bring the salvation of mankind. Fearing her as a potential threat, Braiking Boss sent three of his most powerful cyborg warriors to dispose of Luna: Casshern, Dio, and Leda. Casshern, the strongest warrior, manages to track down and kill Luna. However, this triggers a cataclysmic event which sets into motion the end of the world. Hundreds of years later, the world's atmosphere is filled with poison, and, due to the inability of most remaining humans to reproduce, as well as the constant threat posed by the robots, humanity is on the brink of extinction.^"

   As for shows such as Durarara & Kakaishi, Adult Swim still can play them whenever they please. I would expect to see them again once Cowbhoy Bebop or GitS ends or sometime in the near future. They will probably end up being tossed into the rotation of anime that is played in the later evening too. My Fiancee will be sad to now have Durara & Kakaishi on, but we own Durarara so maybe it wont be so bad. I look forward to watching Deadman Wonderland though. ^^x

Toonami returns, taking place of Adult Swim's Saturday Schedule

Congratulations to everyone who pushed this movement., Starting on May 26th, Adult Swim will air Toonami for their nightly block. Currently no line up is announced and the schedule on adultswim.com is currently empty.

The currently line up for Saturday Night includes Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Durarara, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, ans Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd Gig. All that is really required here is to toss in some retro shows and put good old T.O.M. in between commercials. I currently like Adult Swim's Saturday Lineup, so I am hoping not alot is taken away. Perhaps instead of replaying the same episode of Bleach all night, we can get some DBZ or Trigun? Toonami should also cover the hours before midnight. I think we get enough of Peter and Stan during the week.

I do have a little concern; I hope they intend to bring us some new shows as well as old shows and the current anime Saturday lineup. Only the future will tell.

Edit: Adult Swim has announced that there will be "new original anime programming" for the block. They have also confirmed that it will run from Midnight to 6am. 
Update: Adult Swim is keeping the line-up secret until the time of it's premier.

There is an uprising brewing: "BRING TOONAMI BACK!"

If you turned onto watch Anime on Adult Swim this past weekend you, like myself and my fiance, we're surprised to see the beginning of a Gundam Wing episode instead of the catchy Durarara! intro. Adult Swim decided to play a little Toonami as a joke. Some people where confused, some cried tears of nostalgia, and some people switched it to another network. (The last was my house hold, but we kept going back every 30min to see what episode of what show was next. Nothing is as nice to fall asleep to as Big O. <3) After it was said and done, we even got a new scene of the Toonami host T.O.M. telling us "April Fools." Hell, the even tossed in a Mass Effect 3 review.

Shortly after, #adultswim tweeted a simple line:

Within the last few days, over 10,000 people have retweeted it. Some other very amusing comments have appeared on the #BringBackToonami page as well.

Even people such as Kyle Hebert & Spiderman are supporting this. Let's see how this rocks.

This is not the first time Toonami's fanbase hasn't supported the show. The crew over at ToonamiAftermath.com have been streaming old Toonami shows and more (uncensored versions of anime that was shown originally on Toonami.) Even has been showing anime such as Ranma 1/2 and movies reviewed by the fellows over at Rift Tracks.

Those who have been following Toonami from the start know about it's simple begining and it's untimely downfall. In 2004 the number of shows we're changed from anime action to kid anime action shows such as Duel Masters. Even though they still played great shows like Megas XLR and JL: Unlimited, the choice of programs would eventually decline. Spamming Bakugan, Yugioh, and MegaMan Starforce is what probably killed the ratings.  If Toonami is able to come back, it can easily replace the CN action block and take over shows that are currently already playing on Cartoon Network.

Make a dream line up, you say? Don't mind if I do!

Like Adult Swim, I feel Toonami should be an entree of new shows with a side of popular reruns and finished with popular nostalgia.Current shows like the new ThunderCats would fit in perfectly with Toonami as well as others.

Possible ideas for new Toonami shows: One Piece (New Dub. People will love it.), Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals (Naruto Parody SpinOff), and New Batman series (Isn't it that time yet?), Gundam Age (Would be perfect!)
